Emin Amrullayev on the possible closure of the Russian sector in Azerbaijan

Emin Amrullayev on the possible closure of the Russian sector in Azerbaijan

The Russian sector operates in the education system of Azerbaijan, and it is technically impossible to close these classes starting tomorrow.

As 1news.az reports citing Trend, Education Minister Emin Amrullayev stated this while answering questions during the event "Certification: a competent teacher - quality education."

According to the minister, it is necessary to take into account the teachers working here, the existing infrastructure and other factors:

"In addition, the state language is Azerbaijani, and our main goal as the Ministry of Science and Education is to provide Azerbaijani citizens with quality education in the state language.

In the country, along with the Russian sector, there are schools teaching in other languages as well. Parents themselves decide in which language their children will receive education.

The prevailing opinion that education in the Russian sector is of higher quality compared to Azerbaijani does not reflect reality. Perhaps in the past such an approach had some grounds, but today this is not the case. The issue of closing Russian-language schools has never been on the agenda. However, as in any educational institution, if objective reasons arise - such as a reduction in the number of students or a shortage of teachers - optimization may be carried out. This is an absolutely natural process. For example, due to the small number of students in the villages of Azerbaijan, hundreds of schools have ceased their activities or been optimized. The same principle applies to all schools without exception."
