US advances bill on sanctions against countries purchasing Russian oil

A bill allowing sanctions to be imposed against countries that continue to purchase Russian oil is being advanced in the US Congress.

Republican Senator from South Carolina Lindsey Graham (listed in the Russian register of terrorists and extremists) reported this on Sunday.

"We are moving forward with a bill that will allow President [US Donald] Trump to impose sanctions against countries that continue to support Russia through purchases of cheap oil," Graham wrote on his page on X.

The senator also noted that the bill will give the US leader the opportunity to "advance America's interests."

Earlier, Bloomberg reported that Indian authorities asked the US administration to extend the license to purchase oil from Russia. US authorities in March lifted sanctions on transactions for the sale of oil and oil products from Russia loaded onto vessels before that date; the decision was subsequently extended and supplemented. Washington took this step amid a spike in oil prices due to the consequences of the US war against Iran.
