Warsaw hosted the 12th European Tram Driving Championship, known as Tram-EM.

Twenty-six teams from various European cities and from Melbourne, Australia, took part in the competition. The championship was held on Marszałkowska Street, near the Palace of Culture and Science.

The championship was timed to coincide with Public Transport Day and marked the 160th anniversary of the tram network in the Polish capital. The drivers competed in precision driving, as well as speed and accuracy in braking multi-ton trams. Each team consisted of two people: a woman and a man.

One of the most spectacular challenges was "tram bowling" with giant pins. In addition, the drivers took a smooth-ride test, operating a tram with a bowl of water. A separate challenge was speed control with the speedometer covered.

The team from Prague won the competition.
