White House: Trump ushers in the era of Superintelligence
U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an Executive Order replacing the term "Artificial Intelligence" ("AI") with "Superintelligence" ("SI") in the executive branch.
A White House statement notes that this decision is intended to recognize the continuous advancement of the technological frontier and "the boundless possibilities it opens for the American people."
The order directs all departments and agencies to use the terms "Superintelligence" and "SI" in official correspondence, public communications, policy documents, and subregulatory documents within the executive branch, and to discontinue the use of the terms "Artificial Intelligence" or "AI."
The president instructed his Assistant to the President for Science and Technology (APST) to propose a federal definition of the terms "Superintelligence" and "SI" reflecting the current state of this remarkable cutting-edge technology, and to identify any additional executive branch actions necessary to implement the proposed definition.
"The United States is the world leader in Superintelligence, and the Federal Government should use a name that reflects the full potential and capabilities of these technologies. The United States is the birthplace of Artificial Intelligence and the driving force behind this field; the country has led the world in its development and adoption for more than 70 years since its emergence as a field of research," the statement says.
"The name 'Superintelligence' conveys the true capabilities of the technologies being developed today. They unlock new forms of human creativity and give Americans the ability to achieve what previously seemed impossible, rather than merely imitating or automating the human mind, as the term 'Artificial Intelligence' implies. Using the name 'Superintelligence' ensures that departments and agencies will focus on expanding the capabilities and applications of these technologies to empower Americans, strengthen our economy, and improve the lives of the American people," it notes.
The White House emphasized that President Trump has taken "decisive steps to ensure the United States leads and wins in the field of Superintelligence," as well as to ensure that every American benefits from SI and its enormous economic advantages: "Immediately upon returning to office, President Trump revoked the Biden administration's excessive and harmful measures in the field of SI, thereby ushering in a new era of innovation. Under President Trump's leadership, the Federal Government announced the allocation of more than $5 billion to the 'Genesis' mission — a national initiative to use Superintelligence to accelerate breakthroughs in science, medicine, energy, and manufacturing. In July 2025, the White House released 'America's AI Action Plan,' which identified more than 90 federal-level measures to win the SI race by accelerating innovation, building American SI infrastructure, and strengthening U.S. global leadership in this field. In March 2026, the White House presented a sensible and comprehensive National Strategic Framework on Superintelligence, containing legislative recommendations to ensure that this technological revolution benefits every American."
