Ilham Aliyev announces start of gas production at new field
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev announced the start of gas production at a new field.
"Very soon, probably at the beginning of next month, we will announce the start of gas production at a new field," the head of state said in an interview with the Euronews television channel.
The head of state noted that our cooperation with Europe in the energy sector began some time ago. "This process has been proceeding at an especially accelerated pace since 2020, when we commissioned the Southern Gas Corridor, which today supplies natural gas to 16 countries. Thus, Azerbaijan ranks first in terms of the number of countries to which we supply pipeline gas. And this number is growing. Ten member states of the European Union are our buyers. In total, twelve European countries receive Azerbaijani gas. The number of such countries is growing. The number of requests we receive asking to start cooperation is also growing.
And, fortunately, we have prepared properly in terms of pipeline infrastructure, as well as geological exploration and production. Therefore, the level of production is now growing. Very soon, probably at the beginning of next month, we will announce the start of gas production at a new field. So this is a win-win situation. We need a premium market, which is Europe. And Europe needs an alternative source of supplies, which is Azerbaijan. Thus, we have combined our efforts and established very fruitful cooperation with the European Commission," the head of state said.
