Iceland may boycott Eurovision 2027 over Israel's participation
The board of Iceland's state broadcaster RÚV has come out in favor of the country withdrawing from Eurovision 2027 if Israel is allowed to perform in the contest.
According to RÚV's official website, the relevant decision was made at a board meeting on September 30. Six of the nine board members put forward a proposal to instruct the broadcaster's director general to notify the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) that Iceland will not take part in the 2027 contest if Israel is not barred from performing.
The decision also reiterates a call for the EBU to exclude Israel from the contest's participants.
It should be noted that at this point this is not about an unconditional refusal by Iceland to take part in Eurovision 2027, but about the position of the RÚV board related to Israel's participation — it is reported that the final decision on the country's participation will depend on further decisions within the framework of the contest.
As a reminder, in 2026 Iceland already declined to take part in Eurovision amid Israel's participation.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2027 will be held in the Bulgarian city of Burgas from May 12 to 15.
