Britain will not support blockade of Strait of Hormuz

Britain will not join the U.S. military mission to blockade the Strait of Hormuz.

"We do not support a blockade," said British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

"From my perspective, it is vital that the strait remains open, not closed. This is not a distant issue for us. Every time the strait is closed or free navigation is disrupted, it means gas and oil do not reach the markets, and prices go up," Starmer said, noting that this directly affects consumers in Britain.

"We will not be drawn into a war. Britain will not be drawn in. It is not in our national interest because I am not going to act unless there is a clear, legal basis and a well-thought-out plan," added the head of the British government.

On Sunday, American leader Donald Trump announced that the U.S. Navy and other countries are beginning a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.
