Iran could open the Strait of Hormuz within 7 days if the United States lifts the blockade of its ports and reduces military pressure, Reuters reports, citing an unnamed senior Iranian official.

"Iran could open the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the U.S. reduces military pressure and lifts the blockade of Iranian ports," the report says.

In mid-June, the United States and Iran signed a memorandum intended to launch the process of concluding a peace agreement. However, three weeks later a new round of escalation began: Washington accused Tehran of shelling commercial vessels in Hormuz, after which the sides resumed exchanging strikes. Currently, free passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz is not taking place.
