Fifa confirms transfer of Iran's training base for 2026 World Cup from USA to Mexico
The International Football Federation (FIFA) has confirmed that the Iranian national team has relocated its training base for the 2026 World Cup from the USA to Mexico.
Iran was originally supposed to be based in Tucson, Arizona, USA, but chose the border city of Tijuana as its new base. The relocation of the camp will allow avoiding difficulties related to visas, and the team will be able to fly directly to Mexico on Iran Air flights.
The Iranian national team will play its first two matches of the group stage of the World Cup in Los Angeles: on June 15 the team will play against New Zealand, and on June 21 against Belgium. Then Iran will meet Egypt in Seattle on June 26.
The 2026 World Cup will be held from June 11 to July 19 in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
