UEFA receives new Real Madrid documents in Negreira case

UEFA has confirmed it received a substantial amount of documents from Real Madrid relating to the investigation into Barcelona in the Negreira case.

UEFA's Ethics and Disciplinary Inspectors hold the new documentation and will assess it as part of their ongoing review of the case.

The case concerns payments made by Barcelona over the past two decades to Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, a former vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees of the Spanish Football Federation.

Real Madrid said in an official statement that its complaint includes abundant documentation and evidence on events the club considers extremely serious, which it says directly affect the integrity of the competition and confidence in the refereeing system.

The club called for the investigation to move as quickly as possible to its full conclusion, and for the competent bodies to take decisions matching the seriousness of the proven facts. Real Madrid added that it would continue to collaborate actively with UEFA to clarify events it regards as incompatible with the principles of integrity, transparency and fair play.

Barcelona said "no new investigation has been opened by UEFA regarding the Negreira case, besides the ongoing one in 2023," adding that the club has always cooperated and will continue to do so.
