Gianni Infantino announces intention to run for FIFA presidency again
FIFA President Gianni Infantino plans to remain in his position until 2031.
The official himself announced his intention to run for a new term in 2027 at the FIFA Congress, which is taking place in Vancouver, Canada.
Infantino has held the position of FIFA President since 2016. The organization's statutes limit the maximum tenure in this role to three four-year terms. However, in 2022, the FIFA Council decided not to count Infantino's first term as president from 2016 to 2019.
Thus, Infantino's fourth term will be considered his third and will extend his time in office to 15 years if he wins. In the last election in 2023, he was the only candidate.
