George Russell's win in Baku entered the top 10 closest finishes in Formula 1 history

The victory of British Mercedes driver George Russell at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix entered the top ten closest finishes in Formula 1 history.

In Baku, Russell beat Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who finished second, by just 0.196 seconds. It is the closest finish in the championship since 2002.

The result took tenth place on the list of the smallest gaps between the winner and second place in Formula 1 history.

In ninth position is the 2002 Austrian Grand Prix, where Michael Schumacher beat Rubens Barrichello by 0.182 seconds.

The record belongs to the 1971 Italian Grand Prix. Back then, Peter Gethin beat Ronnie Peterson by an advantage of just 0.010 seconds.
