Protests in French schools: DETAILS
Teenagers set a fire at the Aimé Césaire high school in Lille during a protest against learning conditions that has swept through French schools.

Outside the Beaupré high school in Haubourdin, about 100 young people gathered with wooden structures and tires, which they then set on fire. The resulting column of smoke was visible for several hundred meters.
Firefighters and law enforcement forces arrived at the scene. Tear gas was used to disperse the participants in the protest. According to the outlet, police also used it at the Baggio high school in Lille. At the Aimé Césaire high school in Fives, garbage containers and bicycles were burning.
The prefecture reported seven detentions carried out over the course of the morning. All those detained were placed in custody on suspicion of deliberate arson and throwing firecrackers at law enforcement officers.
In a leaflet prepared with the help of artificial intelligence, the students set out their demands. Among them are improved food in the cafeterias, permission to use phones, clearer organization of classes, and open dialogue with the administration.
Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu, on the social network X, condemned the "irresponsible escalation" by deputies from La France Insoumise, who are calling for the protest movement to be expanded. He stated that nothing justifies creating a threat to students, school staff, and police officers.
Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez and Education Minister Édouard Geffray emphasized that police intervention must be carried out only after consultation with the leadership of the educational institutions.
