Thai footballer dies from lightning strike during match - VIDEO
A Thai footballer died as a result of a lightning strike during a match in southern Thailand, with nine more players injured.
As 1news.az reports, this was stated by the Bangkok Post newspaper.
The incident occurred on August 4 in Narathiwat province during the regional tournament Golok FA Cup 2026, which was also attended by athletes from Malaysia. Video posted on social networks captured a bright flash, after which several footballers fell on the pitch.
The deceased was 24-year-old Thai footballer Sofwan Awe. His teammates tried to provide him with first aid on the field, but it was not possible to save him. As a result of the lightning strike, eight Thai citizens were hospitalized, and one Malaysian was also injured and returned to his homeland for treatment.
