Six defendants arrested in Armenia in case of disrupting ruling party campaign

Six out of 10 citizens detained in the case of an incident during the pre-election campaign of the party of Armenia's current Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in the Tashir community of Lori region have been arrested.

The Investigative Committee informed Sputnik Armenia about this.

Earlier, the Investigative Committee reported the detention of 10 citizens — supporters of the Strong Armenia bloc who obstructed the campaign of the ruling Civil Contract party. A criminal case was opened under the article on obstructing pre-election campaigning. Later, political representative Gohar Meloyan stated that provocateurs appeared among the supporters during the incident.

The Investigative Committee clarified that one more person has been placed under house arrest, while no court decision has been made regarding the remaining three.

The incident that led to the detentions occurred on May 16 in the village of Metsavan in the enlarged Tashir community, where supporters of Strong Armenia (the party of Russian oligarch Samvel Karapetyan) confronted representatives of the ruling Civil Contract party (led by Defense Minister Suren Papikyan, who is on leave for the campaign). Karapetyan’s supporters played loud music and chanted “Samvel, Samvel” to drown out Papikyan’s speech.
