Afghanistan imposes ban on smartphones

Afghanistan has imposed a ban on the use of smartphones by representatives of the current authorities and government employees.

The leader of the Taliban movement, Hibatullah Akhundzada, issued the corresponding order, reports 1news.az, citing Afghanistan International.

According to the published information, the restrictions apply both to members of the movement and to employees of state structures. The document states that persons who violate the established ban will be held accountable through military courts. At the same time, specific punishment measures are not specified.

To monitor compliance with the new rules, employees of military courts have been tasked with organizing supervision of government employees. For this purpose, a special register has been formed, including data on positions, places of work, mobile operators, and telephone numbers of persons subject to the order.

As noted, the decision is a continuation of the policy to limit the use of modern means of communication in the country. Previously, a ban on the use of smartphones was introduced in Afghan schools and madrasas.

The Afghan minister of higher education, commenting on this initiative earlier, stated that smartphones are "one of the three main enemies of Muslims."
