Media: Date announced for peace talks between Israel and Lebanon

Delegations from Lebanon and Israel will hold an eighth round of talks in Rome on September 15-16 devoted to a peaceful settlement of the conflict.

This was reported by the television channel Al Jazeera, citing diplomatic sources.

According to its information, the parties will discuss the creation of new "pilot zones" in southern areas under the control of the Lebanese army.

The previous round took place on August 4-6. It was interrupted because of an armed provocation by the Shiite organization Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

On September 4, Israel made a goodwill gesture by releasing a group of five people from captivity, which facilitated the resumption of bilateral contacts.

As the republic's Prime Minister Nawaf Salam stated, the government of Lebanon will continue the negotiation process in order to "achieve the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from the entire territory of the country and the safe return of the population to the south."
