Arkady Gukasyan Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison

In the ongoing trial at the Baku Military Court involving Armenian citizens, the verdict for the accused is being read out.

According to the verdict, the accused Arkady Gukasyan has been sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment.

Despite the fact that Arkady Gukasyan is accused of committing crimes that carry a penalty of life imprisonment, and these charges were proven during the judicial investigation, due to the fact that the aforementioned individual reached the age of 65 before the final court decision (verdict) was issued, in accordance with the requirements of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, he cannot be sentenced to life imprisonment.

A. Gukasyan headed the Armenian separatist regime in Karabakh from 1997 to 2007.

It should be noted that the reading of the verdict continues in the trial of citizens of the Republic of Armenia accused of crimes against peace and humanity as a result of Armenia's military aggression, war crimes including the preparation and conduct of aggressive war, genocide, violation of the laws and customs of war, as well as terrorism, financing of terrorism, violent seizure of power, its violent retention, and the commission of numerous other crimes.
