Turkish Foreign Ministry Summons Iranian Ambassador in Ankara After Downed Missile Incident
The Iranian Ambassador in Ankara was summoned to the Turkish Foreign Ministry following an incident involving a missile that fell on Turkish territory, a source in the Turkish foreign policy department told RIA Novosti.
The munition was destroyed by NATO air and missile defense units stationed in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The Iranian Ambassador was called to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where our reaction and concern regarding the incident were conveyed to him, the agency’s interlocutor said.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Turkish Ministry of Defense stated that a ballistic missile, presumably launched from Iranian territory, was destroyed by air defense systems in Turkish airspace. The military department emphasized that there were no casualties or injuries resulting from the falling debris. Nevertheless, the incident has caused serious concern in Ankara.
