Armenia intends to establish rail exports through Azerbaijan and Turkey

The Armenian government intends to develop rail exports, taking into account the possible opening of borders with Azerbaijan and Turkey, stated Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a meeting with representatives of large businesses.

According to him, Armenia is preparing to implement the TRIPP project, which envisages the complete lifting of the land blockade. Currently, rail transportation to the country is partially carried out through Azerbaijani territory. In the future, Yerevan hopes to establish export deliveries in a similar manner, including through Georgia, until direct rail communication with Azerbaijan is launched as part of the project.

Pashinyan noted that a political agreement has been reached ensuring that rail communication between the countries will not be interrupted again after it is opened.

At the same time, the Prime Minister emphasized that over the past 30 years, under conditions of closed borders, the export logistics of Armenian businesses have mainly relied on road transportation. The transition to larger-scale rail transportation requires confidence in the reliability and sustainability of new transport routes.
