Baku expresses protest to ambassadors of Belgium and the Netherlands

On April 20, the ambassadors of Belgium and the Netherlands to Azerbaijan, Julien de Fraipont and Marian de Jong, were separately summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.

As reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during the meetings, a strong protest was expressed regarding the documents adopted on April 16, 2026, by the parliaments of Belgium and the Netherlands, which are viewed as yet another irresponsible attempt to undermine the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, as well as the ongoing peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

It was emphasized that these documents are based on completely false and unfounded assessments and demonstrate a deeply rooted bias against Azerbaijan within these structures. It was noted that the unacceptable claims contained in the documents constitute a gross violation of international law and an overt interference in the rule of law.

During the meetings, all unfounded accusations were firmly and categorically rejected, including inaccurate references to the sovereign territories of Azerbaijan, claims of violation of Armenia's territorial integrity, as well as allegations related to the rights of individuals of Armenian origin and their alleged illegal detention. It was conveyed to the ambassadors that the adoption of these documents appears particularly paradoxical in light of the recent meeting between the speakers of the parliaments of Azerbaijan and Armenia.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan urged the Belgian and Dutch sides to take effective measures to prevent damage to bilateral relations caused by anti-Azerbaijani groups in their parliaments.
