France and Spain support extending the ceasefire regime, agreed upon by the United States and Iran, to include Lebanon as well.

“We want to ensure that the truce fully extends to Lebanon,” stated French leader Emmanuel Macron during a meeting of the country’s National Security and Defense Council.

Macron emphasized that France needs to strengthen its support for the Lebanese armed forces. According to him, this is necessary so they can regain control over the entire territory of Lebanon and counter the Hezbollah movement.

Spain’s Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares also believes that the ceasefire agreed upon by Iran and the United States should extend to Lebanon.

“After nearly 40 days, today’s ceasefire brings hope to the Middle East and the world,” the diplomat wrote on X. He believes this agreement “prevents an escalation with irreparable consequences.”

“Diplomacy, negotiations, and international law are the only path to lasting peace, which the people of the Middle East deserve,” the minister stressed. “The ceasefire must be extended to Lebanon under Resolution 1701 of the Security Council.”
