Ombudsman of Azerbaijan proposes to increase fines for selling energy drinks to children

The Office of the Ombudsman of Azerbaijan has submitted proposals regarding the sale of energy drinks to minors.

This was reported by Report with reference to the Office of the Ombudsman.

According to the information, monitoring conducted in public places and around educational institutions has revealed that the consumption of energy drinks by minors has become a systematic phenomenon.

"There is insufficient control over age restrictions during the sale of these drinks. Age verification mechanisms are practically not applied, especially in vending machines, automated trading terminals, and retail outlets," the information states.

In this regard, the Ombudsman proposes to increase the amount of administrative fines for selling energy drinks to minors, introduce age verification mechanisms for the sale of energy drinks in vending machines or restrict the sale of these products in such machines, tighten restrictions on the advertising of these drinks, establish mandatory health risk warnings, raise awareness in this area, and take other necessary measures.
