Iran demanded that Paris not interfere in internal affairs
The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned the French ambassador in Tehran in protest over the actions of two French diplomats who were briefly detained by Iranian authorities earlier in July.
As Al Arabiya reports, this was stated at a briefing by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei.
Baghaei emphasized that the two French diplomats were interfering in Iran's internal affairs under the pretext of interacting with civil society.
"Yesterday, the French ambassador in Tehran was summoned to the Foreign Ministry. He was told that the French government must stop such actions and interference in Iran's internal affairs under misleading pretexts," he noted.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot reported on July 20 that two French diplomats in Iran had become the object of a "very serious act of intimidation" by the security services of the Islamic Republic. According to him, the diplomats were detained for several hours without explanation, interrogated, and one of them was subjected to physical violence, after which they were able to return to the embassy.
