Bako Saakyan Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison
On the ongoing trial in the Baku Military Court involving citizens of Armenia, the verdict for the accused is being read.
According to the verdict, the accused Bako Saakyan has been sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 20 years.
Despite the fact that the accused Bako Saakyan is charged with committing crimes that carry a penalty of life imprisonment, and these charges were proven during the judicial investigation, due to the fact that the aforementioned individual reached the age of 65 before the final court decision (verdict) was made, in accordance with the requirements of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, he cannot be sentenced to life imprisonment.
B. Saakyan headed the Armenian separatist regime in Karabakh from 2007 to 2020.
It should be noted that the reading of the verdict continues in the trial of citizens of the Republic of Armenia, who are accused of crimes against peace and humanity as a result of Armenia's military aggression, war crimes, including the preparation and conduct of aggressive war, genocide, violation of the laws and customs of war, as well as terrorism, financing of terrorism, violent seizure of power, its violent retention, and the commission of numerous other crimes.
