Electronic Security Service conducts investigation based on request from Hungary
In the context of ongoing global geopolitical processes, the scale of cyberattacks against most countries continues to grow.
“These attacks are not only directly targeted at specific states but are also carried out through systems that do not meet information and cybersecurity requirements, with the aim of attacking the information resources of other countries,” states the press service of the Electronic Security Service.
In this context, based on information received from the National Cybersecurity Center of Hungary (NCSC Hungary), the Digital Investigation Center of the Electronic Security Service (Milli CERT) conducted a large-scale investigation. Following the analysis of the provided technical indicators (URLs and IP addresses), the source and nature of the incident were identified.
During the investigation, it was established that a web resource belonging to a local organization had been subjected to a cyberattack. Cybercriminals placed malicious code and files on the server, using it for unauthorized access to the information systems of other states. Additionally, this infrastructure was used to redirect users to phishing fake resources.
Thanks to prompt measures implemented by the Electronic Security Service, the malicious files were completely removed from the server, potential vulnerability mechanisms were checked, and the normal operation of the information system was restored.
“We once again recommend that owners of information systems regularly review the compliance of their systems and infrastructures with cybersecurity requirements and keep the application of necessary protective measures under constant control,” the Electronic Security Service emphasizes.
