Istanbul to host world's largest zero waste event
The world's largest zero-waste event will take place in Istanbul from June 1–7.
The forum will be held within the framework of Zero Waste Week. According to a statement from the foundation of the same name, the event is organized in partnership with the UN and is distinguished as one of the largest civil platforms in the world on environmental issues and "zero waste" thanks to its scale, diplomatic influence, and the political base it creates at the global level.
The foundation, continuing its activities at national and international levels under the leadership and with the support of the founder of the Zero Waste Movement, chair of the UN High-Level Advisory Board on Zero Waste, and honorary chair of the Zero Waste Foundation Emine Erdogan, will hold the second annual forum at Ataturk Airport.
The event, bringing together ministers, representatives of international organizations, local authorities, academia, the private sector, and civil society under one roof, is one of the most influential platforms for multilateral environmental diplomacy.
At the forum, which will be attended by more than 5,000 high-level delegates from more than 180 countries, over 120 ministers, and more than 200 mayors, sessions will be held dedicated to sustainable development, combating the climate crisis, the circular economy, and zero-waste policies.
The three-day event aims to take the zero-waste approach beyond environmental concern and make it one of the main directions of economic sustainability, development concepts, and international cooperation.
