Christina Ricci called McGregor scum and criticized Jimmy Fallon for interview
American actress Christina Ricci publicly condemned The Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon for inviting mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor on air. This is reported by HuffPost.
Ricci, known for the film The Addams Family and the series Wednesday and Yellowjackets, posted in her Instagram stories a third-party post sharply criticizing the host. "What the hell is this human scum being given a platform on Jimmy Fallon's show? Aren't you ashamed, Jimmy," the text she shared read. The accompanying caption also contained a call to "stop pretending that rape is normal."
The criticism was prompted by McGregor's appearance on The Tonight Show last week. The fighter came on the show to announce his return to the UFC: on July 11 he is scheduled to face Max Holloway at UFC 329 in Las Vegas — his first fight in five years.
Attention to the interview stems from a civil case that concluded in 2024. A jury in Ireland found McGregor liable in a civil suit filed by Nikita Hand, who accused him of rape at a Dublin hotel in 2018. The court ordered the fighter to pay the victim approximately 248,000 euros in compensation. Before the civil case was heard, Irish prosecutors declined to bring criminal charges, citing insufficient evidence, BBC notes.
McGregor himself denies the allegations, claiming the sexual act was "entirely consensual." Two appeals he filed were rejected.
Ricci was not the only one to react to the interview: social media saw a debate over whether entertainment programs should give airtime to public figures involved in high-profile legal proceedings. Critics noted that Fallon did not address these topics in the conversation and focused on the guest's sporting plans.
As of publication, neither Jimmy Fallon nor representatives of The Tonight Show have publicly commented on the controversy.
