Qatar denies reports of offering Iran $12 billion for deal with US
Prime Minister's adviser and official spokesperson for Qatar's Foreign Ministry, Majid bin Mohammed al-Ansari, stated that such reports do not correspond to reality. According to him, the disseminated information is aimed at disrupting a possible agreement and undermining diplomatic efforts related to de-escalation in the region.
Earlier, the Iran International channel, citing a source, reported that Iran allegedly put forward a preliminary condition for continuing negotiations with the US on the immediate unfreezing of $12 billion in assets located in Qatar. Later, this data on social networks was interpreted as claims about possible funding from Qatar.
In turn, an Iranian delegation led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi earlier arrived in the capital Doha for consultations with the Qatari leadership on a possible agreement with the US. It was also reported that the head of Iran's Central Bank, Abdolnaser Hemmati, joined the negotiations to discuss the issue of possible asset unfreezing.
