EU deputy: Armenia's accession to the EU by 2030 unlikely
The question of Armenia's membership in the European Union remains rather theoretical in nature, and the republic's accession by 2030 appears unlikely.
Such an opinion was expressed in an interview with Izvestia by European Parliament deputy from Luxembourg Fernand Kartheiser.
According to him, Armenia enjoys sympathy in the EU, and relations between Yerevan and the union continue to gradually deepen. However, as the MEP noted, the membership issue remains largely hypothetical.
"Given Armenia's geographical position and complex relations with at least one of its neighbors, such a candidacy raises many questions. Despite the fact that relations between the EU and Armenia have steadily improved in recent years, accession by 2030 is unlikely," Kartheiser stated.
He emphasized that, despite the positive dynamics in cooperation, there are still insufficient real prerequisites for Armenia's imminent accession to the European Union.
