Jeyhun Bayramov Discusses Significance of 'Trump Route' Project at Munich Security Conference

On February 13, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov spoke at panel discussions during the Munich Security Conference on the topic 'Defining Eurasia's Strategic Order: The Middle Corridor - European Security Agenda for Stability, Peace, Security, and Connectivity.'

The panel also featured Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili and President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Odile Renaud-Basso.

As reported by AZERTAC, Jeyhun Bayramov provided detailed information on Azerbaijan’s stance on ensuring sustainable peace and security in the South Caucasus, the steps taken, particularly following the historic Washington Summit, as well as Azerbaijan’s policies on regional security and stability.

It was noted that the removal of transit restrictions on goods destined for Armenia and steps toward the sale of petroleum products from Azerbaijan to Armenia have contributed to creating an unprecedentedly stable environment in recent decades.

Additionally, it was emphasized that the issuance of relevant permits by the Armenian side for the export of goods to third countries through Azerbaijani territory, as well as meetings of think tank representatives and experts, are significant confidence-building measures.

For the signing of the initialed peace agreement between the parties and the further advancement of the normalization agenda, the importance of eliminating territorial claims against Azerbaijan in the Armenian Constitution and achieving real progress in implementing the 'Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity' (TRIPP) project in accordance with the Washington Declaration was underscored.

It was mentioned that President Ilham Aliyev’s policy focuses on measures aimed at preventing our region from becoming a space of regional rivalry and confrontation.

During the panel discussions, the minister also informed attendees about large-scale infrastructure works, investments, and regulatory coordination measures with regional partners undertaken by Azerbaijan to strengthen the Middle Corridor.

It was reported that a joint 'Roadmap' was adopted between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkey, and Georgia to simplify cargo transshipment procedures along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, resulting in significantly reduced transit times and increased cargo volumes.

The importance of inclusive connectivity projects, including the TRIPP initiative, was highlighted, with attention drawn to the potential for more active involvement of the European Union in this context, as well as the significant role of Turkey and Georgia in developing regional transport links.

Furthermore, participants were informed about joint projects and efforts by Azerbaijan, implemented in collaboration with Central Asia, aimed at enhancing regional connectivity.

The panel discussions concluded with a question-and-answer session.
