MFA of Azerbaijan: The affiliation of the Karabakh region to Azerbaijan is not based on the decision of any state

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has commented on statements regarding the Karabakh region of our country, which were made during a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on April 1 in Moscow, as well as by other officials.

As reported by 1news.az, these thoughts are reflected in the commentary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan regarding statements made in recent days in Russia about the Karabakh region.

It is noted that through diplomatic channels, the position of official Baku on the inadmissibility of using the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan in political speculations has been conveyed to the Administration of the President of Russia, the government, and the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with expectations for the cessation of such actions.

“Despite this, the topic continues to be present in the official political discourse of the Russian side. Thus, today, the press secretary of the President of Russia, Dmitry Peskov, in an interview with the Vesti TV channel, commenting on Armenian-Russian relations, once again raised the question of who first recognized the Karabakh region as part of Azerbaijan—Russia or Armenia.

The affiliation of the Karabakh region to Azerbaijan is not based on the decision of any state, but rests on history, international law, and justice. This was once again confirmed and finally закреплено as a result of the 44-day Patriotic War of 2020 and the one-day anti-terrorist measures of 2023,” the MFA emphasized.

“We would like to remind the Russian side once again that no country, including the Russian Federation, has ever questioned the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, including the Karabakh region.

We once again convey to the Russian side our expectations that issues related to Azerbaijan’s sovereignty will not become a subject of public discussion during the current period, when relations between Russia and Armenia remain complicated,” the commentary states.
