FT: Trump’s peace council fund left without funding
President Donald Trump’s Peace Council has not received a single dollar in funding four months after its creation.
This is reported by the Financial Times citing sources familiar with the situation.
According to the publication, the organization’s fund remains empty, and the structure itself is in a state of legal and political uncertainty. One of the FT’s interlocutors stated: “Not a single dollar has been received.”
As the newspaper notes, donations were transferred directly to the organization’s bank account at JPMorgan Chase, while the account is not subject to independent transparency requirements.
A representative of the Peace Council told FT that several financing mechanisms were considered, including with the participation of the World Bank. However, according to him, program participants so far preferred to use alternative options.
It is reported that Morocco allocated about $20 million to finance the office of the special representative for Gaza Nikolai Mladenov, as well as to pay salaries to the Palestinian technocratic committee created to govern the sector.
In turn, the United Arab Emirates sent $100 million to train police for Gaza, but the program has not yet started and the funding is frozen.
In addition, the US State Department plans to reallocate about $1.2 billion from international aid programs to projects related to the Peace Council’s agenda. At the same time, the funds will not be transferred directly to the organization and remain unused so far.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump called the Peace Council one of the “most significant” international organizations ever created. According to him, participating states promised to allocate $7 billion in aid to Gaza, and the United States is ready to provide another $10 billion from the federal budget.
