Zakharova criticized the West's reaction to the tragedy in Starobelsk
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova called the reaction of Western countries to the terrorist attack in Starobelsk "monstrous and dehumanized blasphemy."
In an interview on Sputnik radio, the diplomat stated that representatives of Western countries did not express sympathy in connection with the death of children.
"One could have simply said: yes, children died, and this is monstrous, and we sympathize. They don't even say that anymore," Zakharova noted.
According to her, information about what happened was widely available and actively covered by Russian media.
"Our Russian mass media worked there, there were TV segments, articles and reports from the scene. So the information was there," she emphasized.
Zakharova also stated that after the reaction of Western diplomats at the UN, the Russian side received numerous appeals demanding "extraordinary" measures. According to her, this is why a trip for foreign journalists to Starobelsk was organized the next day.
It was previously reported that on the night of May 22, the Armed Forces of Ukraine used drones to attack the academic building and dormitory of the Starobelsk Pedagogical College of Lugansk State Pedagogical University. At the time of the strike, 86 children aged 14 to 18 were in the building.
According to the head of the Luhansk People's Republic Leonid Pasechnik, 21 people were killed in the attack and another 65 children were injured.
