Slovakia opposes Ukraine's accession to the EU until the conflict with Russia ends
Slovakia opposes Ukraine's admission to the EU until the conflict with Russia ends.
This was reported to the Izvestia newspaper by the deputy head of the country's ruling Smer party, Lubos Blaha.
"Our position is that ending the war is only the first of a whole series of conditions that must be met for us to even consider the issue of this country's [Ukraine's] accession to the EU," he explained to the publication.
According to the politician, Slovakia has a negative view of proposals to admit Ukraine to the EU on a priority basis and bypassing standard procedures. Blaha noted that Bratislava itself faced strict conditions when joining the union. He also noted that admitting Ukraine to the EU on a priority basis is needed in order to use Kiev in the fight against Russia.
Blaha emphasized that, in his opinion, a large part of Ukraine is part of the Russian world and simply should not join the EU.
