EU intends to spend €7 trillion on weapons to overtake Russia
European Union countries must spend €7 trillion on weapons production in the next 10 years to overtake Russia in armaments and military power.
EU Defense Commissioner Andrius Kubilius formulated this strategic task for the European Union at a military conference in Brussels.
According to him, the European Union “must overtake Russia in weapons production, number of barrels, and military power.”
“For this, EU countries will spend about €7 trillion over the next 10 years in accordance with commitments made within NATO (to bring their military spending to 5% of GDP – ed.),” he continued.
Kubilius called on all Europeans “to be ready to pay this price for Europe’s military transformation,” describing the expenditures as a “payment for peace.” In addition, he called for fully integrating Ukraine into the emerging European defense union and the EU military market, and for combining the European military industry and Ukrainian production into a single military complex.
The commissioner appealed to European armies and industry to abandon the production of “high-tech weapons” that are difficult to manufacture in large quantities. Instead, he proposed focusing on creating “satisfactory weapons in huge quantities,” citing drones used in the war in Ukraine as an example.
