Trump nominates candidate for U.S. ambassador to Azerbaijan
President of the United States Donald Trump has officially nominated Alexander Alden for the position of extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the United States to Azerbaijan.
This is reported on the White House website.
The official notification of the nomination has been sent by the head of the White House for consideration and approval to the U.S. Senate.
Alexander Alden is an American diplomat, analyst, and expert in the field of international security.
He speaks Italian, Serbian, Croatian, and Bosnian.
Alexander Alden has significant experience working in key analytical and leadership positions in U.S. defense and diplomatic agencies, in particular during the first administration of Donald Trump.
He served in the Pentagon as a special assistant for policy in the Office of the Secretary of Defense.
He worked at the U.S. National Security Council (NSC) as director for defense policy and strategy, and then held the post of senior director for new technologies.
In the U.S. Department of State, he held the position of deputy assistant secretary in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs. In this post, he was responsible for strengthening relations between the United States and the EU, as well as countering Chinese regional influence.
Since the end of 2020, he has served as acting assistant secretary in the Bureau of Conflict and Stabilization Operations.
Before and between periods of government service, A. Alden was actively engaged in political analysis and consulting in the field of defense.
