Pakistan calls for de-escalation around the Strait of Hormuz

Pakistan has stated the need to reduce tensions around the Strait of Hormuz and confirmed its readiness to take part in diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation.

This was reported by the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs following diplomatic contacts on regional security issues.

As noted by the Pakistani foreign policy agency, Islamabad, together with Qatar and other regional partners, is continuing work to bring Iran and the United States back to the technical dialogue mechanism under the Islamabad Memorandum.

The Foreign Ministry also reported that Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and representatives of the foreign policy agency held talks with Saudi Arabia, confirming their readiness to help ensure the safety of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea as part of bilateral defense commitments.

In addition, the agency announced the entry into force of a defense cooperation agreement between Pakistan and Kuwait. The document provides for joint training and exercises and is also aimed at strengthening regional stability.
