More than 10 police officers killed in terrorist attack in Pakistan

The number of police officers killed in a militant attack on a law enforcement checkpoint in Pakistan's northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has risen to 11. This was reported by the newspaper The Times of India, citing the country's Interior Ministry.

Earlier, the deaths of nine security personnel had been reported. During the attack on the checkpoint, the terrorists used quadcopters with improvised explosive devices.

The militants then set up an ambush near the checkpoint, from where they fired on a police armored personnel carrier transporting security personnel sent as reinforcements. The terrorists blew up the armored personnel carrier, and the police killed several extremists with return fire. The total number of terrorists killed in the incident was 15.

Pakistani authorities blamed the attack on militants of the radical group "Fitna al-Khawarij" (previously known as "Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan" or the "Pakistani Taliban Movement"), which is banned in the country. In 2025, the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, which border Afghanistan, accounted for 90% of terrorist attacks in Pakistan. In both regions, various armed groups carry out attacks on Pakistani security forces and civilians under the pretext of defending the rights of ethnic minorities — the Pashtuns and the Baloch. Islamabad accuses the Afghan authorities of providing shelter to the militants.
