EU to provide Armenia with €2.2 million
The European Union (EU) will provide Armenia with €2.2 million to support the visa liberalization process; the funds will go toward areas such as border management, document security, and law enforcement reforms.
This is reported by the press service of the Armenian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
"The European Union is allocating €2.2 million to Armenia to support the visa liberalization process. The funding will be directed to border management, document security, and law enforcement reforms," the ministry's statement says. It is also specified that the funds will go through the program launched on June 1, "Support for the visa liberalization dialogue in Armenia in the field of border management, document security, and law enforcement reforms."
It is also noted that Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan emphasized in this regard that this is the first program in Armenia that directly supports the visa liberalization process. According to the ministry, the specified program is being implemented by Lithuania with the financial support of the European Union in close cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia.
On November 5, 2025, the EU officially handed over to Armenia the Visa Liberalization Action Plan. On September 9, 2024, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, at a meeting with then-Deputy Head of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas, announced that Yerevan and Brussels are beginning negotiations on visa liberalization. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that the topic of visa liberalization is dictated by the spread of EU influence in the South Caucasus, "and in essence, the Westerners themselves formulate this as opening a second front against Russia." She added that Brussels will gain levers of pressure on Armenia's policy after the start of negotiations on visa liberalization.
