In CHP, the dispute over the party's future has intensified: Kılıçdaroğlu may postpone the congress
The situation around Turkey's largest opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) continues to remain one of the key topics of political processes in the country.
Intra-party tensions have intensified following the Ankara Court of Appeal's decision to annul the results of the party's last congress, which declared Özgür Özel the winner, and to return former leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu to the post.
Despite expectations regarding the prompt holding of an extraordinary party congress, claims have emerged in political circles that Kılıçdaroğlu does not intend to hold it in the near future. According to sources, he may retain leadership of the party until the next elections. Experts note that Kılıçdaroğlu intends to personally lead the party in the elections but does not consider the possibility of his own participation in the electoral race.
Against the backdrop of these statements, Özgür Özel again advocated for the earliest possible election of the party leader. "We want elections and a party congress as soon as possible," Özel stated.
In turn, one of Kılıçdaroğlu's close associates, Gürsel Tekin, refuted claims of a crisis within the party. He noted that there is "no chaos" in the party and that the new congress is planned to be held in Istanbul. According to Tekin, preparations for the extraordinary congress will begin in the near future, and the congress itself may take place in about seven months.
