U.S. faces tungsten shortage for restoring missile arsenal
The U.S. is "desperately seeking" tungsten to restore its missile arsenal.
NBC News reports this.
According to the channel, stocks of modern weapons and ammunition have been depleted amid the conflict against Iran.
Tungsten is used in the production of fighters, bunker bombs, armor-piercing shells and missile systems, including Tomahawk and Patriot. It is noted that since 2015 there are no operating commercial mines in the U.S. for the extraction of this metal.
The administration of the U.S. president is attempting to reduce dependence on supplies from China, which remains the world leader in tungsten processing.
