Robert Kocharyan accuses US and Europe of attempts to influence Armenian election results
The visit of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Yerevan can be viewed as interference in the upcoming June 7 parliamentary elections in Armenia, believes former president of this country Robert Kocharyan, who heads the proportional list of candidates for deputies of the bloc of parties "Armenia."
"Of course, such a visit a few days before the elections, urgent, unannounced, with an agenda unknown to the public and a purpose unknown to the public, gives reason for such assessments. Especially since recently we see how visits by delegations from some European countries have become part of the agitation campaign. When you look at the content of the signed documents, there is nothing special, but the visit undoubtedly has an agitational character. What is bad about that? We are becoming the center of geopolitical competition," Kocharyan noted.
He added that he had not heard statements from Russia in favor of the oppositionists, but from European countries there are such statements in favor of the current authorities, and this has already become a trend.
Kocharyan noted that 10-15 years ago this would have been considered a bad manifestation, but now everything is mixed up, and in this case one needs to look at the situation calmly. The ex-president called what is happening an attempt to influence the elections. "Today the side that is trying to influence the elections is trying to justify this by an attempt of influence from the opposite side. The gradual mutual growth of escalation leads to nothing good," Kocharyan concluded.
