Armenian CEC: it is still unclear whether three or four political forces will enter the new parliament

Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission of Armenia Vahagn Hovakimyan stated that he will not be able to say exactly how many political forces will enter the country's parliament based on the election results until the final voting results are announced.

"The problem is that to calculate the mandates, there must be a clear understanding of which political forces are entering parliament and what their exact votes are. That is, until the votes are recounted and the results are summed up, there is no point in talking [about mandates]. In the end, we still do not have a clear picture of whether three or four political forces will participate in the distribution of mandates, since due to these circumstances, the data on those who voted for me is changing," Hovakimyan said at a press conference in Yerevan.

According to preliminary data from the CEC of Armenia, three political forces are entering the country's parliament based on the results of the regular elections on June 7. The "Civil Contract" party of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is gaining 49.825% of the votes. The "Strong Armenia" bloc of businessman Samvel Karapetyan is gaining 23.281%, the "Armenia" bloc of former president Robert Kocharyan - 9.934%. The "Prosperous Armenia" party of businessman Gagik Tsarukyan received, according to adjusted data, 3.996% of the votes. The threshold for parties is 4%. If there is a recount of votes, the picture may change. Voter turnout in the elections was 58.97%. Thus, Pashinyan's party receives a simple majority in parliament and will be able to independently form a government and choose a prime minister.
