Yerevan expects new progress in Armenian-Turkish normalization
The process of normalizing relations between Armenia and Turkey continues, and in the near future, new progress may be recorded.
This was stated by Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on June 8 during a meeting of the permanent parliamentary Commission on State and Legal Affairs while discussing the annual report on the implementation of the state budget for 2025, touching on the topic of the Armenian-Turkish dialogue and the work done recently in this direction.
"Meetings of the working group created to resume the operation of the Gyumri-Kars railway, as well as a number of other meetings, have taken place," Mirzoyan said.
According to him, new tangible results are possible in the process of normalizing relations in the near future.
"My expectation and opinion are that in the very near future, at some stage, we will achieve tangible progress on the issue of full normalization of our relations with Turkey," the minister noted.
Mirzoyan also expressed confidence that the normalization process will reach its logical conclusion.
"I want to express confidence that in the near future we will, in essence, come to full normalization," the head of the foreign ministry stated.
The foreign minister also noted that direct trade already exists between the two countries.
"I will mention only the latest development, although it does not relate to the reporting period. Now there is direct trade between Armenia and Turkey - direct in the customs sense and geographical sense, despite the fact that supplies are still carried out through the territories of third countries," Mirzoyan said.
