France ready to send ships to Strait of Hormuz for its demining
France is ready, if necessary, to send its mine sweepers to the Strait of Hormuz to conduct operations to clear it of mines.
This was stated on the air of the TF1 channel by the Minister of the Armed Forces of the Republic Catherine Vautrin.
"We have two mine sweepers in the area - Lyre and Androm de, which are potentially ready to accompany demining operations," said the head of the military department.
She did not specify exactly where the ships are, but stressed that now they are "not far from the Strait of Hormuz." "This means that they have the opportunity to intervene very quickly," Vautrin noted.
The minister pointed to the importance of rapid deployment, since "uncertainty still remains on the question of whether the strait is mined or not."
Earlier, officials from the US, Iran, and Pakistan, acting as a mediator, confirmed the achievement of an agreement between Washington and Tehran. It is planned to be signed in Geneva on June 19. According to Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, during the 60-day truce, the parties will discuss, among other things, Tehran's nuclear program, and from June 15, the end of the US naval blockade of Iran is announced, as well as the immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon.
