24 die in CAR due to cholera outbreak
In the Central African Republic (CAR), 24 people have died due to a cholera outbreak.
As the Xinhua news agency reports, this was announced by CAR Minister of Health and Population Pierre Somse.
"To date, 197 cases of cholera have been recorded, as well as 24 deaths, with a mortality rate of 12.2%," he noted.
According to the minister, the necessary medical assistance is being provided to those affected. It is specified that the epicenter of the outbreak is in the southwest of the country in the Bimbo and Mbaiki districts. The first case of the disease was detected on June 14.
According to the World Health Organization, cholera outbreaks have been recorded in 14 African countries. The largest of them occurred in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), where since the beginning of 2026, 21 thousand cases have been recorded, of which 726 died.
