Hegseth does not rule out resumption of military actions and blockade of Iran
The United States administration will resume military actions against Iran and reimpose the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz if Iran does not fulfill its obligations under the memorandum with the U.S.
Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth told reporters this before leaving Brussels.
“President [U.S. President Donald Trump] stressed that we will be ready to resume actions if Iran does not fulfill what it promised within the established deadlines of these negotiations,” the head of the defense department said after a meeting with NATO defense ministers.
“If Iran does not fulfill its obligations, we are quite capable of reimposing a strict blockade,” Hegseth added.
On June 14, the U.S. and Iran announced that they had agreed on a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the conflict. On June 18, Trump stated that he had signed the memorandum.
