Hegseth announces review of question on deployment of US troops in Europe

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced a review of the issue of further deployment of US troops in Europe.

It is to last six months.

"Today I am announcing a six-month review by the Defense Ministry, which will be devoted to analyzing the placement of American troops and their bases in Europe. The term is up to six months. Possibly less," Hegseth said at a meeting of NATO defense ministers.

Giving an assessment of the state of the alliance, the Pentagon chief stated that NATO has been a "paper tiger" and a "one-way street" for too long, but it should no longer be that way.

He emphasized that US contributions to NATO will depend on other alliance countries meeting their target indicators for defense spending.
