Nakhchivan and the Zangezur Corridor: A Moment of Truth for Armenia
Iran has launched a drone strike on Nakhchivan's airport. As a result, all domestic and international flights to and from the autonomous region have been canceled.
In the current situation, Nakhchivan is effectively cut off from the main part of Azerbaijan and the outside world. The only land connection remaining is a 13-kilometer stretch of border with Turkey.
Under these challenging circumstances, the only direct link between the main part of Azerbaijan and its autonomous region could be the Zangezur Corridor.
Previously, Azerbaijan demonstrated a gesture of goodwill by allowing the transportation of goods to Armenia.
Given this, official Yerevan should consider the possibility of opening a road to Nakhchivan.
If Armenia genuinely seeks to demonstrate its peacekeeping stance in relations with Azerbaijan, a logical step would be to provide its territory for the transit of Azerbaijani goods, which would ensure connectivity between Nakhchivan and the main part of the country.
Under the current conditions, such a move could serve as a real display of good neighborliness and a practical confirmation of statements about the desire for peace—not just in words, but in deeds.
